Vision of The Orphanage
Through practising the “Art of Lovemosis” we provide a safe platform and assist people to participate and experience an important local official Burning Man event.
Description and Purpose
We create a family environment where first timers and travelling overseas Burners become friends, experience the Burn, and living the Ten Principles together. We delight in questions and helping people understand this amazing new world they have found. We are also a drop in centre for other campers who want to learn more about the Burner community and culture. Come by and visit us anytime, especially if you are a first timer ("Burgin"). Our overall camp size will be approximately 30-40 people. At that size, you should be able to get to know everyone in the camp by name and get to know some of us really well!
Role and home for Travelling Burners
Burgins can learn better and faster when they are mentored by experienced Burners. So what better way to gift back to the burn you are visiting, but by sharing your experience and expertise with people who are in awe to hear it. Enjoy the sparkle of confounding delight as you watch the Newburn Orphans wake up to the world that is The Burn. Be a sounding ear to their experiences and share the love that was offered to you as you entered this world for the first time.
The Unicorn Orphanage is a place where travelling Burners can stay and have access to cooking and showering facilities (thus improving everyone “LNT” footprint). We live together as a family unit, so be prepared to have lots of new brothers and sisters.
First timers/Burgins
Looking for a soft landing pad for your first burn? Then perhaps The Orphanage is a place for you. It’s important to the Burner culture that newbies learn the ropes, so we take Newburners seriously and welcome you with open arms. By staying at The Orphanage you acknowledge that Burning Seed is not a big doof party, but there are deeper layers involved, and you open the door to having these deeper experiences.
Regardless of whether you get a place or not, you will always be welcome to come and hang out in The Orphanage space through-out Burning Seed.
Activities at The Orphanage and Sacred Seed
During the event, we gift a number of activities to the Burning Seed community:
Camp Commitment
1. We would like as many Orphans as possible to arrive on the first day the event gates open to general public and stay until the morning following the Temple Burn. This is for two reasons…
- more hands to help set up and pack down make it more enjoyable for everyone;
- the energy dynamic is much stronger when everyone is there at the beginning and everyone stays until the end together.
2. Spend as much time as possible with The Orphanage for Wednesday and Thursday until “Welcome to Country” (the traditional opening of Burning Seed by Wadjiidi elders) on Thursday afternoon...thereafter roam free and explore!
3. Participate in some shifts and events at The Orphanage. If we all commit to some small chores that won't take very much time, the whole experience for everyone in the Orphanage will be made easier!
4. Participate in Sacred Seed.
