Welcome home

IMPORTANT DATES
Expressions of interest close Tuesday 31st December 2019...

ABOUT THIS THEME CAMP

PepperLand will be returning to KiwiBurn in January 2020.   PepperLand is inspired by the land of art and music called "Pepperland" as featured in the 1968 Beatles movie "Yellow Submarine".  We recommend watching the movie if you are unfamiliar with it.  Not much of what we do will make sense unless you are familiar with the movie.  And if you are not a fan of The Beatles, then perhaps this camp is not for you.

PepperLand is not a "pay and play" camp, e.g. we are not like a hotel to merely make your burn easy so that you can party for five days solid.  Everyone in the camp is expected to contribute before, during and after KiwiBurn.

PepperLand is a camp for our core crew, first timers to KiwiBurn and for travelling Burners from around the world.  Remember, this event is not another festival, bush doof or party for the weekend warrior to pretend they are spiritually enlightened or a hippie! You will get both in good measure and have an amazing time providing you come open and leave the outside world at the gate.

The primary focus of the camp in 2020 is to support our eclectic art and events which hopefully will include:
- Sgt. Pepper Lonely Hearts Club (Cocktail) Bar
- Movie cinema
- The Pepper Snort (to help people to enter the Black Hole)
- Pizza for Peace
- The Aquarium

Whether you are joining a theme camp or not, you also need to separately purchase your own KiwiBurn ticket which are SOLD OUT!!!

However, note that the principle of radical self-reliance still applies (refer to 10 principles below) so you must bring basic things such as food, tent, sleeping bag etc -

THE CORE CREW
The PepperLand core crew are experienced burners.  We've run our own theme camps a total of eight times at KiwiBurn and Burning Seed (Australia).  We have also contributed significantly to art installations and theme camps at Burning Man, AfrikaBurn, YouTopia and many other official/unofficial Burning Man regional events.

CAMP INFRASTRUCTURE
The core crew will facilitate making, acquiring and transporting most of the theme camp art, activities and main structures.  The camp does not provide meals, food or shared kitchen other than what is required to support our bar and pizza gifting.

The camp will not be providing the following and we recommend you plan well for your personal camping needs*:
  • your own tent, sleeping gear and shade;
  • your own water, drinks, food, utensils, cooking equipment and washing up;
  • personal cleaning/showering needs;
  • cooling/chilling of food and drinks (ice will be available on-site);
  • personal leave no trace plan - site mooping, take away all your own gear and rubbish.

(* for international travelers, we understand that some of these logistics will be challenging, so let's chat about how we can collaborate!)

Read more about what you need here:

Read the KiwiBurn survival guide:

If you are a first time participant at a Burning Man event, please become familiar with the Ten Principles:
http://kiwiburn.com/about/guiding-principles/

How can you help:
  • core camp set-up and pack down;
  • making art and decorations;
  • pre-event pizza making (for freezing and storage until KiwiBurn);
  • run a workshop (e.g. talks, yoga, healing, tarot, learning);
  • support and the theme camp events and performances;
  • financial assistance;
  • transport logistics;
  • and in many other ways we probably have not considered!

Contributing to PepperLand in one or more ways is the most important criteria for joining the camp.

CAMP STIPEND/CONTRIBUTION
Camp stipends required before Tuesday 17th December 2019 - otherwise we will offer places to those on our wait list.

Contribution towards theme camp operations:
per Adult: NZD $50.00
per Teen/Child (under 18): NZD $0.00 (kids are free!)

# Camp contribution can transferred via: Bitcoin, Ether, Paypal or traditional New Zealand or Australia bank transfer

What is this for? These modest contributions will cover the costs of replenishing and expanding our equipment, transport costs of getting the gear to KiwiBurn, bar drinks and mixers, gas (for pizza oven), providing for electricity and lighting capability, yearly storage, year round activities, helping our events and art projects. Basically it helps us do what we do for you and as our gift to KiwiBurn and other events (e.g. the new Northland Burn).  Also year round we aim to support the Burner community through taking PepperLand to other community fund raising events, Decompression events and other burns locally and internationally.

The contribution to the camp is less than it might cost you otherwise to buy/bring many of the things we offer, it also avoids unnecessary consumption through shared resources and confirms a commitment to join us (and avoid "no shows").
